This is what happens in Nyócker!... well, sort of. ;)
The movie is about District 8 in Budapest; how by many, it is considered as the most, let us say, run-down area in the city. Here, we get to see the everydays of the two opposing families (the Romanis with a son and the Hungarians with a daughter) through the eyes of the locals. The children at school get together trying to solve the problem of lack of money, and in a traditionally Hungarian way comedy ensues. The point is further highlighted by the fact that the group of children includes Chinese, and Arabic members too. It has a message, it is funny, however it is quite vulgar and unfortunately would only be fully understood by Hungarian speakers, for the typical use of puns, and swear words. The scriptwriter did have a challenging job, but was successful I believe.
The artwork in this movie is great as well, because the facial features are copied from the actors who do the voiceovers for the characters, and in this they did an amazing job.
Another thing that came to my mind was the 2007 movie: Megy a gőzős
Szabó Kimmel Tamás as Körte Kázmér
What I remember the most is how the boy protagonist was in love with the pretty daughter of the man who didn't like him. Again, slightly Romeo and Juliet-esque in my opinion.
Egres Katinka as Böske
Koltai Róbert and Szabó Győző
More to come later!
